Sheaths and Scabbards

Gentleman’s Brass-Mounted Smallsword Scabbard.

This scabbard was designed to perfectly complement this handsome smallword made by period cutler, Kyle Willyard.  Handmade brass furniture features brazed joints for strength, and hand-turned finial to match the sword's pommel.  The 10 oz. bridle leather body* is seamed with a butted saddler's stitch, using 6-strand flax cordage for strength.  It is finished with brass tacks in an attractively embossed latticework design, and represents a scabbard for the man of quality.

* Extant specimens from the 1700's typically do not have the breakable -

and, indeed, unnecessary - wooden core found in imported scabbards from India and Pakistan.

Silk-Embroidered Dagger Sheath.

This English leather sheath was a special project for the wife of a close

friend, to provide a fitting method for a lady living at a fur-trading post

to carry her diminuitive dagger (for self-defense).  The floral pattern was taken from a lady’s pocket of the 18th-Century.  I embroidered it by hand, using only an awl, needle, and imported silken threads.  I submit it as inspiration for your own project.

Iron-Mounted Cutlass/Hanger Scabbard.

Authentically produced from stem to stern, with handmade steel furniture,

specially aged to complement its edged counterpart.  10 oz. bridle leather,

hand-fitted to the sword's dimensions and sweep, is seamed with a butted

saddler's stitch, using heavy flax cord.

As with all my scabbards, this type can be made in a variety of leather

colours and hardware designs, to complement your sidearm and to suit your

fancy.
